Emergence Event is a space exploration game for two to four players. At first glance it appears to follow the familiar 4X conventions (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate) seen in games such as Twilight Imperium and Eclipse, but instead Emergence Event is about piloting capital ships into unexplored space and controlling key locations and resources. The game is based around a series of ages, or epochs, and as time advances so does the difficulty of the encounters the ship captains will have to face. Victory relies on planning ahead and being prepared for what the future might bring.
The rules are still in development but so far the game looks like an interesting blend of exploration and resource management, and combat of course, it’s not a space game without attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. The graphic design already looks very good and if you’re familiar with the Mercs games you’ll recognise the bold but simple style.
Even though Megacon Games’ last two efforts, Mercs Recon and Myth, where Kickstarter projects, MERCKenny on the Megacon forums has confirmed that this will be a standard commercial release and should be out towards the end of the year.
